Favorite Authors and Books
Sherman
Alexie’s ABSOLUTELY TRUE DIARY OF A PART-TIME INDIAN. The
cartoons were brilliant, and the humor so honest and heart-breaking.
Definitely one of my favorite reads so far this year.
Sarah Aronson’s HEAD
CASE. What I love most about this novel is that we’re
not made to feel sorry for the main character, Frank, who has
been paralyzed from the neck down after driving drunk, and killing
his girlfriend and an innocent bystander. We’re taken along
on his blaringly painful journey as he settles in to his new,
limited life. The last few pages gave me goosebumps!
Libba Bray’s Great
and Terrible Beauty Trilogy. Because who couldn’t
love a turn-of-the-century English boarding school dark fantasy/romance
trilogy?
Jane Yolen’s The Queen’s
Own Fool and Girl in a Cage, among her many, many others.
Katherine Patterson’s
Bridge to Terabithia. She signed my copy, and I had her
make it out to my two girls…they’ll learn to read
in a few years.
Martine Leavitt’s Keturah
and Lord Death. A spellbinding read, and the setting
was so well done.
Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight
series. Pure bliss! I can’t wait for the fourth
to come out.
Natalie Babbitt’s Eyes
of the Amaryllis. I can’t wait until my girls are
old enough for me to read this to them!
Laurie Faria Stolarz’s Blue is
for Nightmare’s trilogy. Spooky, funny, mysterious…all
kinds of good stuff.
Lois Lowry’s The Giver.
Haunting, spare, and a book I think should be incorporated into
high school curriculums.
Check back for more favorites soon.
